Well it's the play button contact more than likely. Try flooding the play button with Caig DeOxit D5.

Yep--and give it time to dry. Make sure the unit is NOT plugged in when you do it!!

Thanks guys picked up some today and that's what I'll do first!
It's a neat little recorder but would probably cost more to put it in the shop as replacement.......

Is it definitely only the play function? What about recording?
I don't know anything about this machine. Can you make it play by issuing a midi command to it?

Could well be the wee relay unit under the button has failed or with a bit of luck it could be a dry solder joint.

Ok, I don't know if you have been "under the covers" with the D888, but some disassembly is required to access the PLAY switch. Skills and tools required to work on this equipment are not in everyone's kit - Proceed at your own risk!

You will find drawing # KOD-A30649 (available in service manual linked above) useful for trouble shooting. All the push buttons are fed from a common 3.3V supply, so if the other functions are working, power supply is likely OK. Switch SW33 is the play button and is connected to pin 14 of logic IC32, along with several other switches including Ch.7 button, Output Assign button, Cursor Down button and Jump Right button. If any of these other buttons work, IC32 is OK. Now you have narrowed it down to the physical switch. Try 'jumpering' across the switch to see if this activates the PLAY function. If it does, you have a bad switch. You may be able to clean/repair it or you may be able to order one from Korg - P/N 510374520021 (Tact Switch SKRGAQD010 9.5mm 1.27N). Good luck!
