    Default Bypass Master Section...???...WL7

    hello again...

as a default, whenever I attempt to render an audio file as a different type...the checkbox in the dialog stating bypass master section in resulting audio file is checked.

does this mean the ENTIRE master section...???...(sure hope not).

my concern is that...when I render 32-bit files to 16-bit files while using dither (in that section)...that's being bypassed...???

    thanx,

It means the RESULTING file will not be going thru the master section again by default - not that it won't be processed thru master when you are making it. This is to keep from having double everything when you listen to the completed file.

It's just a little highlight-button on the bottom of the window by the way to turn on/off whether a file is played thru master section.

    MMB...

    thanx...

what i was asking is: since the (required) dither is within that master section...the dither doesn't get bypassed, right?

Yes, dithering is part of the Master Section and if that bypass box is ticked, dithering would NOT be applied. Here's the blurb from the manual...

    4.6.16 Rendering
To Render effects into a temporary or final file, you use the Render function (note that the "Save" function from the File menu does not Render!). The Render function is part of the Master Section and in other applications is sometimes referred to as "bouncing down" or "mixing down".

Rendering a file "prints" all audible settings and effects that the audio is being routed through in the Master section, to the resultant Audio File. This includes any plug-ins, the level of the faders and any dithering you have set in the Master Section.

In WaveLab you normally use the Render function to:
ˆ Mix down a file in a Wave window to a new Audio File, complete with Master Section effects, dithering and other settings.
ˆ Mix down a complete Audio Montage to an Audio File.
ˆ "Apply" all settings in the Master Section to a file in a Wave window.
When you render a file you can choose the format of the new Audio File and whether you wish to create a new file or render the file in place. When the file is rendering you will see a progress bar in the status bar.In WaveLab you can also view this Progress bar in the Background tasks window (a shared tool window that can be set to float independently). This allows you to monitor the progress of rendering, pause and if necessary cancel the rendering process.

    Rendering tips
When you are new to the rendering process in WaveLab there are a few things to note: ˆ when rendering a file with the default option "Bypass Master Section on resulting Audio File" selected in the Render dialog, the Master Section will be bypassed completely when the new file has finished rendering. If this option is not selected you will hear the
Master Section effects being played back on top of the newly rendered effects. You can check if the Master Section has been bypassed by checking the status of the "Play through Master Section" button, which is located at the bottom right hand corner of the status bar.

ˆ The Master Section's "Bypass" switch affects playback only. So even if you can't hear effects when you are playing back your audio, any applied effects are still rendered.

ˆ The "Effect on/off" switch for each individual plug-in affects both playback and Rendering.

Mark4man ... you're still getting confused between it applying it when it is creating the new file vs it being applied as you LISTEN to a file.

Regardless of the "bypass master section in resulting audio file" setting - your effects, including dither, will get applied and "be a part of" the resulting audio file. The checkbox is simply asking if you want that audio file you just created to be heard through the master section AFTER it is created and you play it, which you typically DON'T want to do, because then you are going to hear double of whatever you've done to it in the first place.

Now if dither is the only thing you're doing, you're not going to notice a difference because you can't hear dither at normal volumes anyway. But let's so you added a big reverb in the master section and then rendered a new file from it. If you don't bypass in that check box, when it's made the new file and you play it, you are going to hear the reverb you applied plus you're going to hear it with that much more reverb AGAIN because it's going through the master section that has the reverb on it! Does that make sense?

In other words - it's NOT asking if you want to skip the master section when making your new file, it's asking if you want to bypass it AFTER you've made your new file and you're listening to that new file.
